The main ingredient of the dietary supplement, which has a positive effect in menopausal disorders, is cimicifuga. The main group of active substances are triterpene saponins derivatives of actein.
Cimicifuga does not contain classical phytoestrogens such as formonononetin and genistein. According to the latest data, the mechanism of pharmacological effect of cimicifuga is related to the modulation of estrogen receptors, supplemented by action on the CNS, which in general contributes to the reduction of menopausal (vasomotor, vaginal and psychological) symptoms, as well as inhibition of destructive processes in bones associated with a decrease in estrogen levels, leading to osteoporosis.
Cimicifuga has an osteoprotective effect by increasing the activity of osteoblasts. Moreover, it has recently been shown that cimicifuga can be a good addition to hormone replacement therapy – the combination of cimicifuga and estrogens is more effective than estrogens alone. In addition, cimicifuga inhibits the growth of hormone-dependent breast cancer cells and may thus act as an oncoprophylactic agent.
The positive effect of cimicifuga is complemented by the presence of fat-soluble vitamins, selenium and magnesium salts in the formulation of dietary supplements.
Magnesium deficiency manifests as insomnia, chronic fatigue, osteoporosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraines, muscle cramps, cardiac arrhythmias, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
